Building the Herd
​
Kim established Gandy Angus (formerly Diamond Tree Angus) in 1986 with 85 foundation purebred Black Angus cows from three respected Australian studs: Whispering Pines Angus (15 head), Mordallup Angus (20 head), and Mayfield Park Angus (50 head).
Canadian Genetics
In 1994, Kim traveled to Hamilton Farms Angus in Canada and purchased embryos from elite females MVF Tibbie 15T and Knights Blackbird 9. These acquisitions established cow families that continue to influence our herd today.
The Walk On Line
A flush of MVHF Dreamwalker 29A (grandson of Tibbie 15T) produced HF Walk On 14C and his full sisters HF Blackbird 26C and HF Blackbird 27C—the foundation of our Blackbird cow families.
Kim imported HF Walk On 14C into Australia and built a significant portion of the herd from this line. Walk On topped Genestar for eating quality and marbling. While never recognized by Breedplan due to his outcross pedigree and limited use in Australia, his progeny consistently delivered results.
The line has proven itself across generations: HF Walk On 14C sired herd sire R203, who produced Diamond Tree Walk On T47. T47's daughters W44, W50, and X33 each became productive matriarchs, producing multiple herd sires and stud females.
Hingaia 469
Kim was the first Australian breeder to use Hingaia 469, with the first calves born in 1994. This bull appears throughout many of our pedigrees and produced herd sire U37. U37's most prolific daughter X24 produced herd sires Z8 and C112.

Productive Longevity
​
Several foundation females demonstrate the longevity and productivity we select for. Diamond Tree Bartel L36, Diamond Tree Prosperity L70, and Diamond Tree CC & 7 L180 all continue producing at 10+ years of age. Diamond Tree Reserve L21 would still be producing but suffered an accident.
The Gandy Era
​
The L cows were heifers when we rebranded as Gandy Angus. Since then, strong performers have emerged including Gandy Bronc P32, Gandy Innovation P39, and Gandy Stunner R15, with many younger females now coming through the program.
